Limestone of a Roman Dromedarius, 3rd century AD
The Dromedarii, a speciality in Roman army, were first recruited among the population of the conquered Asiatic Provinces (Syria, Arabia Petrea). They were precious for the patrolling of the desertic areas, and effective in the wars against Nomads and raiders. The first regiment mentioned in the Roman army related to them is from the age of the Emperor Trajan.
