The Painted Room at Wadi As-Siyyagh. First century BC. Discovered in 1979, this room is a good example of Nabatean residences. The cave probably formed one room within a larger housing complex made up of several adjacent caves. The walls of the cave are covered with stucco painted with drawings of doorways framed by pale blue bands on an orange or darker red background. The architectural frescoes on the south and west walls of the Wadi As-Sayyagh room indicate that the doorways are topped with cornices and pediments. A winged sphinx, probably an influence from Greek mythology, stands above one doorway. The ceiling of the cave was plastered and had a circular molded central roundel.
