The Zeus Temple is supposed to have been built in the 2nd century AD, replacing a 1st century temple that itself replaced an even earlier temple. The temple proper measured 41 x 28 meters, and had 38 columns of which only a few are still standing. The walls however still reach some 10 meters. In Syro-Nabataean tradition a staircase would lead to the roof.
