While staying at the nice town of Çanakkale I revisited Troy, which I had seen in the early 90’s, in December 2006. The first time I had not understood a lot of what I saw. There were hardly any explanatory notices on the site, and since layer has been built upon layer it was just a huge mishmash of stones. Things were better this time, although still the site is comprehensible only if one takes ones’ time to read all the notices and is very careful in where one looks. These pictures may help people who have been there to remember. For people who never visited the place it probably is still that heap of stones. There are several informative sites on the internet where reconstructions are shown, those may well be more informative than my pictures. I scavenged the notices and used their text under many pictures. That is: some pictures have these extensive texts, some of which "cover" several pictures. I am aware that, although I try to get it right, I may sometimes put a wrong text to a picture. Feel free to comment. I also copied a few of the reconstruction drawings on site. Note that the copyright this time, of course, is not mine, but I thought they might be copied.
I did not have the time (unlike on earlier visits) to wander in the nearby countryside, which is a pity because it is nice. I may add some pictures from there once I scanned the slides.

TRUVA

2006 Aralık ayında güzel Çanakkale şehrinde kalırken, 90’larda gördüğüm Truva’yı bir kez daha ziyaret ettim. İlk seferde gördüklerimin birçoğunu anlamamıştım. O zaman neredeyse hiç açıklayıcı not yoktu ve üst üste katlar inşa edildiği için sadece bir taş yığını görünüyordu. Bu sefer her şey daha iyiydi. Yine de anlayabilmek iççin bütün açıklayıcı yazıları okumaya zaman ayırıp nereye baktığınıza dikkat etmeniz gerekiyor. Buradaki resimler, oraya daha önce gitmiş olanların hatırlamalarına yardımcı olabilir. Hiç gitmemiş olanlara ise muhtemelen yine bir taş yığını gibi görünecektir.
