Sheik Fethullah Mosque

Locally known as Şıh Camii it was built in 1563. It is part of Gazianteps most important “külliye” (a complex centered around a mosque with often Koran School, Hospital, Soup Kitchen et cetera). In particular the stonework is famous, mostly so that of the mihrab. A central octagonal stone pillar is connected to the walls by a fan vault. Together with the roofing this makes for a distinctive design. The door is embellished with muquarnas. In the south of the mosque there is a “hazira” (tombs contained within the enclosure of a mosque) including that of Sheik Fethullah.
