Ovacık is a (very) small town high up in the mountains to the Northwest of Tunceli. After a bit over an hour in a minibus (or was it 1,5 hrs?) through an amazing country, mainly following a river that originates near the town, the Munzur river, one gets to a high plain. After a pleasant chat and some food offered by a fellow passenger (thanks) I rented a car to go and visit the spot where the river emerges from the rocks. It is not exactly the sources of the Nile, and I was told in May the supply is much more than the small stream I saw emerging, but it was nice to have seen that part of the province and see people enjoy their mangal (the Turkish variation of a barbecue) picnics. After returning I strolled through town a bit, then headed back to Tunceli.
