Of this ancient town mainly the negative is known, i.e. that it used to be (mis)taken for Seleucia in Pamphylia but isn't. An inscription that was found later (written in the language of Side) indicated Lyrbe should be the name, and implied the city was founded before Hellenistic times, which would put its foundation before the 330-30 BC period. The authorities who placed a notice on the site used that name of Lyrbe. But the discussion went on, and a hypothesis I found is that Seleucia in Pamphylia was built on the site of an older Lyrbe. The site has several well-preserved ruins, the most important of which is the agora, which impressed me a lot. It is a compact set of façades of buildings, some rising high, surrounding an open area, further on some quite big buildings stand alone in the woods. A small temple can also be found. An article I found stated “The visible remains of buildings in Lyrbe come from the Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine periods.”
