Lüleburgaz is a town in Thrace, and in my opinion the main reason to go there is a visit to the Sokollu Mehmet Paşa Camii or Mosque. It is by the great architect Sinan and dates from 1549. The local authorities have thought it fit to surround this building of great importance by parking space, so that it is almost impossible to take a decent picture without a couple of cars in sight. It is a miracle that parking on the courtyard itself is forbidden (or maybe no one dared that yet). I know of many towns where cars spoil most views, but here I thought it particularly atrocious. One excuse may be that the streets of the city are filled to overflowing also. I walked them for a while, and took some pictures at one of the two markets that were in full swing.

Then I hopped a minibus to visit Babaeski, a town that I paid no other attention to than visit the Semiz Ali Paşa Camii, another Sinan mosque. Then back to Edirne. All pictures were taken in December 2006, and the weather was foggy and clouded. In 2009 I returned with only marginally better weather.

I grouped the Sokollu Mehmet Paşa pictures into one sub-gallery. As I did the same with the Babaeski ones not much in the main gallery remains.
