I call this “walk” after the business district at Levent, which was my destination for a rainy day in March 2006. I had an honest-to-truth business appointment there, and had decided it would be a fine opportunity to show some of the “modern Turkey” many people often request (or order) me to document. No more old houses, show us the energetic future. Well, … I spoil the effect somewhat for though I start with some modern sculpture, soon the mosques and Ottoman fountains kick in. However, after a while you will see the high-rises you may have longed for, in particular the headquarters of the Iş Bankası came out well. I returned by metro, and show some of the spectacular modern tiles at the Taksim station. Since I next walked down to the Bosporus by necessity I came through some older parts of town, and some viewers may be horrified to see I managed to end with some spectacularly decrepit housing. And a modern one, to make the point. But that was not the end: December 2009 I made (again with poor weather) a kind-of walk, during which I took the metro, and went first to Levent4-station, then back to Levent itself, and then on and on till Taksim. I would get out and take a number of pictures, then continue my yourney. I will add captions later, but now you know it no longer is just a walk. Some other "modern" gallery is that of the Ankara Armada Building.

LEVENT YÜRÜYÜŞÜ

Mart 2006’da yağmurlu bir günde gittiğim Levent’teki bu iş bölgesini bir “yürürüş” olarak adlandırıyorum. Orada gerçekten bir iş randevum vardı, ve bunun pekçok insanın benden rica ettiğı (veya emrettiğı) modern Türkiye’yi göstermek için iyi bir fırsat olduğuna karar verdim. Daha fazla eski ev istemiyoruz, bize enerjik geleceğı göster diyorlar. Gerçi tam olarak böyle yapmıyorum, çünkü her ne kadar modern heykellerle başlasam da, hemen ardından camiler ve Osmanlı çeşmeleri geliyor. Yine de, onlardan sonra özlemiş olabileceğiniz yüksek binaları göreceksiniz. Özellikle; İş Bankası’nın merkez binaları iyi bir şekilde ortaya çıktı. Metroyla döndüm ve Taksim İstasyonu’ndaki olağanüstü, modern çinilerin resimlerini çektim. Daha sonra zorunluluktan Boğaz’a yürüdüğümden, ilçenin daha eski kısımlarıyla karşılaştım ve olağanüstü derecede eski binalarla bitirmeyi başardığımı görmek bazı ziyaretçileri dehşete düşürebilir. Yine de asıl noktayı vurgulamak için modern bir binayla bitirdim. Ankara Armada Binası, diğer bir “modern” galeriyi oluşturuyor.
