Kaş is a pleasant town (if it has not changed too much in the eight or ten years I did not visit it). It was founded in the fourth century BC as Antiphellos, when it was the harbour to Phellos, higher up the mountains. In Roman times it became important in its own right, for the export of wood and sponges. It possesses a very fine theatre, a bit further on is a monolithic grave house from the 4th century BC. Overlooking the town are several graves hewn into the rock. In the city near the nice harbour is hyposorion sarcophagus (for more: check at http://www.lycianturkey.com/lycian_tombs.htm ).

On the road to Fethiye (has a gallery of its own) you will come by Patara. I went there not for the beach (which is great) but for the antique city.

KAŞ VE PATARA

Kaş hoı bir ilçe (orayı ziyaret etmediğim 8-10 yıl içinde çok fazla değişmemişse tabi). MÖ 4. yüzyılda kuruldu. Dağın yükseklerinde kurulmuş Phellos’un limanı olduğu için buraya Antiphellos adı verildi. Roma döneminde, ağaç ve sünger ihracatı sayesinde kendi başına önemli bir yer haline gelmiştir. Çok hoş bir tiyatrosu var, onun biraz ötesinde MÖ 4. yüzyıldan kalma monolitik bir mezar bulunuyor. İlçeye yüksek bir yerden bakınca kayaların içine oyulmuş çeşitli mezarlar görüyorsunuz.
