This building has recently been restored, during the works some channel was found which ran under the medrese, it is partly shown now. Çelâlledin Karatay was a Seljuk statesman who had the Karatay Medrese built, in which the important museum of (almost exclusively) Seljuk ceramics and some other finds is housed. Çelâlledin Karatay started his service to Seljuk rulers under Keykavus I in 1212 as vizieral secretary, and later was commander in chief under Alaaddin Keykabut for 18 years. Under others he was treasury commander and Atabeg. He died in Kayseri in 1254, his embalmed body was brought to the türbe at his medrese. I show pictures that I took during at least three visits, taken with different camera’s and lenses under differing light conditions. One annoying factor always is the amount of internal reflections within the showcases, which is hard to control for, I try to correct as much as possible to the “real world” look of the objects, but sometimes I had to make sacrifices in order to make them at least visible. I like ceramics a lot, and I know that some objects appear again and again, I may weed out some weaker ones later. In general I will try and reorganize the pictures later. Almost all objects are from the 12th-13th century (a few Ottoman pieces near the end which I will later label as such).
