In 2018 I could not visit the museum, it and the area around it was being restored and part excavated. Luckily I have many pictures from an earlier visit. Also it may well be that the extensive excavations that I witnessed will be covered later, so the pictures that I took of those will have some documentary value.

With so many pictures I decided to give the museum its own gallery. For the time being I'll keep older captions in place and the 2018 should speak for themselves.
The museum is housed in the Nilüfer Imaret, the open hall in front was a new element in late-Seljuk architecture, taken from the Byzantine style. Founded by Murat I in memory of his mother, Nilüfer Hatun. The museum used to house a fine collection of earthenware / fritware, and in its gardens there's an extensive collection of mainly Roman finds.
