from Istanbul Turkish & Islamic Arts Museum

The Museum of Turkish and Islam Arts (Turkish: Türk ve İslam Eserleri Müzesi) is located in Sultanahmet Square, opposite the Sultan Ahmed Mosque (‘Blue Mosque’). Constructed in 1524, the building was formerly the palace of Pargalı Ibrahim Paşa, who was the second grand vizier to Suleiman the Magnificent. The collection includes notable examples of Islamic calligraphy, tiles, metal and woodwork, and rugs as well as ethnographic displays. The rugs collection contains pieces (predominantly knotted carpets) from the 13th to the 20th century.

The works in this sub-gallery are a selection from the exhibits in the museum.
