We are standing in the outer bailey of Anavarza’s upper city (called ‘basse cour’, which is French for ‘Lower courtyard’) and looking towards the North. On the left: the ruins of the burial church of the Armenian kings.
In the background: the inner fortress (or keep), separated from the outer bailey by a ravine, that was defended by an impressive bastion.
