From a March 2007 visit these pictures show a monument that has been erected north of the Konak area, at what is called Alsancak more precisely on the Kordon near Gündoğdu (with a Turkish g to be precise; I think it then means "sunrise" or "the birth of a day" or something very close). I took many pictures to show it from all sides.
