This is the Muradiye mosque, by the greatest Turkish architect, Sinan. It is one of his last works, from 1582-1585, who built it for Murat III.
The interior. Sinan lived in the age when Iznik tiles were at their best, as you can witness.
On the picture: The calligraphic inscriptions on this tile panel are Kuran verses.
The designs were drawn by the artists and calligraphers of the Topkapı Sarayı workshops and sent to the potters at Iznik for transfer to the tile panels and plates, which were used in mosques and palaces all over the Ottoman Empire.
