Aproaching the citadel. The citadel or Kale sits, at 184 metres, on top of a hill with buildings that are mainly from Byzantine times. There are 23 towers and bulwarks, the ruin of a palace and of a mosque from the times of the emirs, a storage room of 5 x 5 x 18 metres and a cistern. All is pretty ruined, although some towers and walls have been restored (and now look too new compared with the rest). I read only later that along the Eastern flank of the hill there are (a few) remains of an old theatre and a stadium, I intend to go an see some other time.
