Gaziantep Alaüddevle Camii 8411

From a note on site: In his book of travels Evliya Çelebi writes that between 1479 and 1515 Alaüddevle Mosque was built under Alaüddevle Bozkurt Bey. Only the minaret remains from that period. It was completely reconstructed in 1901 under architect Armenak and master-builder Kirkor. It has aa single dome and is richly decorated. The northern façade is built of black and white stones. The mihrab has a pointed arch and looks like a portal. The minaret is in the Mamaluk style, and is built on a square basis with a cylindrical body. It is the only extant work from the Beylik of the Sons of Dulkadir. Under a balcony with blind niches muqarnas are visible. The mosque has no excess congregation area [the space, often in front, where late-comers can attend without entering the mosque].

My apologies, you are correct. The black and white horizontal stripes have been imprinted in my mind from photos in their home. I assumed them to be unique to the Asdvadzadzin Cathedral in Aintab. Never assume...

I wonder who is kidding whom. I found on the internet an article in Turkish with as an abstract:

ABSTRACT
Alaüddevle Mosque, built by Alaüddevle the Dulkadir Ruler(Dulkadir Beyi) at the beginning of the sixteenth century in Gaziantep province center is an interesting architectural work, since the ruined structure was demolished in 1898 and a new mosque was built at the same place.
The Mosque that reflects the characteristics of the Post-Tanzimat Ottoman architecture was designed by the Armenian architect Ermenak and built by the masterbuilder Kirkor who built other important monuments in Gaziantep.
The Mosque as a product of the eclectic approach combines the features of the Ottoman Classic Period, Neogothic, Neoclassic and Southeastern Anatolia Mosque Architecture. Mihrab, minber and va›z kürsüsü taking place in harim which is covered by a dome in the style of the Ottoman
Classic Period, possess the features of Neoclassic and local architecture. The outer facades of the Mosque which has no son cemaat yeri were designed in Neoclassic style.

I found the article athttp://www.edebiyatdergisi.hacettepe.edu.tr/2003201MustafaServetAkpolat.pdf#search=%22%20%22ala%C3%BCddevle%22%22 .

I know of course that not too far from here there is a much larger, more cathedral-like "mosque” (it was being restored when I visited it in December 2005). It has the same dark-light stone stripes. I cannot read Turkish to the extent that I can read the article of which I gave an abstract, but might it be your granny went to that other place?

Are you kidding? Thats an Armenian church, my grand parents lived near it. I love how you have completely ignored it.

People originally from Gaziantep call this mosque as Alidola Cami :) funny isn't it?
