This is a portal lion from Göllüdağ, a village South-West of Kayseri along the Nevşehir to Niğde road. I would say its from Hittite times again.
The site of Göllüdağ was under excavation in 1934, 1968-69, 1992-94 and 2007-08. It proved to be a Neo-Hittite settlement, with a palace-like building (112x228 m). The most spectacular finds are basalt statues of lions, ‘guarding’ the mean entrances. These are now exhibited in the archeological museums of Kayseri and Niğde. They are dated from the end of the 8th century BC.
