This mosque is near the Nurosmaniye mosque, and curious because it is in a style I know well from Bursa. It dates from 1462, nine years after the conquest of Constantinople.

This is Istanbul’s first Turkish mosque, built by Mahmut Paşa, who was Grand Vizier at the time.
Architect was Mimar Atik Sinan (not the great Sinan, but an earlier namesake, who’s full name was Sinaüddin Yusuf bin Abdullah; he died in 1471, shortly after he finished the Fatih Camii, which was his most important piece of work). The Mahmut Paşa Mosque had to be repaired in 1755 and 1785 (after earthquakes), and in 1829 again (after a fire).

On the picture: The muqarnas vault and the extensive building inscriptions above the entrance to the prayer hall.
The central ones (on a black base) date from 868 H. (= 1462-1463 AD). The lateral ones (on a green base) date from the 1755 restoration under Osman III.
