Three mosques

view map

For some viewers these pictures will be too hazy, but remember, it was on an early December morning, with lots of vapour in the air. And on some pictures the distance is considerable.

We have just left Eminönü for a ride to Kadiköy on the Asian side of the Bosporus. You see from left to right the New Mosque, the Süleymaniye on the hill, and more to the right the Rüstem Pasha mosque.

Concerning one of them: The Süleymaniye has four minarets, placed at the corners of the courtyard, north of the mosque. Two of them have two balconies, the two other have three.
In Süleyman’s day a choir of some 250 muezzins climbed to chant the call to prayer from the ten galleries of the four minarets (25 on each balcony!).

Salem! This picture just reminded me of my visit in Istanbul last January 2005. I've been in other country but I would say that Im really in love with this country,,,, I did enjoy my stay in the beautiful city of Istanbu. I hope I could visit Turkey very soon. Nice picture though!
