Yes, that's correct, the baby is Mary's soul. The book I bought on Kariye says so, anyways. Great photo - somehow I missed taking that one when I was there. _Adam

I understand your confusion. I don't remember where I got this information, but this IS a depiction of the death of Mary, and the baby that Jesus is holding is supposed to represent Mary's soul, to be carried to heaven by Jesus.
