From the gardens of the Süleymaniye complex this picture shows part of the greater complex surrounding the mosque (the cupola's), further on is another mosque, the Yeni or New Mosque. And then the Bosporus and the other - Asian - shore.
On the Horn side of the complex, the two medrese (colleges) are not raised on the platform where the mosque stands, but descend the hillside in a series of steps so as to avoid masking the mosque and mausoleum of the sultan.
