Bodrum Museum October 2015 3661.jpg

When an area inside the former necropolis of Halicarnassus was being prepared for construction, the museum was informed and oversaw digging. On April 25th 1989 seven long stone blocks were found, under which a tomb was found. In it was a sarcophagus with a gabled roof carved from one piece of stone. Inside an exceptionally well preserved skeleton was detected, arms crossed and resting on the abdomen, the whole body covered with golden jewellery. It seems to concern a Carian Princess who died between 360-325 BC. She died at about age 40, was 1,62 m. tall, she had a straight and complete set of teeth. Her diet was rich in milk and milk products, she gave birth to more than one child. Her long skull type of skull she shared with about 25% of the Anatolian population, the other 75% has a wide skull. A mouse skeleton was inside her tomb, it must have drifted in.

Without further captions I show pictures of the display, a reconstruction of the princess, her jewels, et cetera.
