We are here rather close to the “fifth military gate”, which is not too far from Top Kapı (kapı means gate: the name has nothing to do with Topkapı Palace). Top means cannon, during the conquest in 1453 the biggest cannon, “Orban”, was put at that point. We’ll head south. The walls here are in poor repair, partly because they were below the level of the cannon, the hill going down there, it was the part that was breached on 29 May 1453.
