An Atatürk monument, the text “Yurtta sulh, cihanda sulh” is a quotation from a speech he made on 20 April 1931, it translates as “Peace at home, peace in the world” and was later accepted as the policy of the Republic of Turkey in foreign relations. The Wikipedia mentions: “The original full sentence was “Cumhuriyet Halk Fırkası'nın müstakar umumî siyasetini şu kısa cümle açıkça ifadeye kâfidir zannederim: Yurtta sulh, cihanda sulh için çalışıyoruz.” translated as "To describe the stable and general diplomacy of the Republican People's Party, I think this short sentence is enough: We work for peace at home, peace in the world."

Old Turkish is not comprehensible to many after the language was transformed (on orders of the same Atatürk) so on many monuments one can read a modernized version: “Yurtta barış, dünyada barış”. In 2014 Erdoğan made known that the old language (Osmanlı) would be taught again, which is a bit like an Italian president ordering Latin to be taught as a second language.
