This is the Alaaddin Mosque, slightly downhill from the heart of town. A group of women was having Quran lessons, so I did not take pictures in some parts. The mosque sits almost on top of another mosque, which was being restored.
Inside the mosque I noticed another curious construction on a large pole, like the one I'd seen in the previous mosque. I think I understood from people I asked about this, that at some point the Ottoman sultan spread a thread of some holy relic to mosques in the region. Once I’d seen it, I saw it in many mosques in the region. I cannot imagine it was, for instance, a hair of Muhamad’s beard, and a thread from his robe is not very probable either. Could some viewer help us understand?
