Aşağı Çardak Mosaic. 5th century AD. Found in Aşağıçardak Village in the Nizip sub-province of Gaziantep in the 1970’s it was brought to the museum after a rescue-excavation in 2009. It is considered to be from a martyr’s cemetery. It has a main panel and a surrounding geometrical border containing grapes and vine leaves, with another border of colours. Birds and Gordian knots are shown in round, rectangular and diamond-shaped rosettes, most of them damaged to some extent. Four epigraphs in Greek also figure in the mosaic.
