Bursa Hudavendigar Mosque May 2014 7593.jpg

The ‘mihrab’, which is a semicircular niche in the wall of a mosque that indicates the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca and hence the direction that Muslims should face when praying. The wall in which a mihrab appears is the "qibla wall."
The prayer niche has been refreshed recently (2006), but the design of the decoration dates from 1904. It displays calligraphic borders in ‘modernised’ Kufi script, and painting in late-Ottoman style, mixing 16th century classical design with 19th century Turkish ‘Baroque’, influenced by European Neo-Classicism.
