The town is famous for the products made from roses that are grown in the surrounding country. Shops sell them, on several spots one is reminded of this produce by statues and the like.
Sami Süleyman Gündoğdu Demirel, better known as Süleyman Demirel served as Prime Minister seven times and was from the province of Isparta. At his monument, a text calls him an epitome of democracy, hardworking and the pride of Isparta.
Apart from being Turkey’s Prime Minister for 10 years and 5 months (7 times between 1965 and 1993), he also became the Republic’s ninth president (from 1993 to 2000). He was born in Islamköy, a large village in the Atabey district, 20 km northeast of Isparta.
