A heavy stone vase filled with ‘tespih’s (= strings of prayer beads).
A tespih (called ‘masbaha’ or ‘sibha’ in Arabic) is a tool used by muslims for devotion after regular prayer, including recitation of the 99 Names of Allah, and the glorification of God. It is often made of wooden beads, but also of olive seeds, ivory, amber, pearls, silver or plastic. A full size tespih consists of 99 beads (corresponding to the 99 Names of Allah); the common size tespih has 33 beads (in which case one cycles through them 3 times to equal 99).
