Limyra march 2012 5218.jpg

I knew there was a long Roman bridge a few miles further down the road, so I walked there, and found that I came upon rock grave upon rock grave, without any need to climb.

This is Necropolis 5, 2,2 km. from Limyra, with 128 tombs from the Late Classical Period. The deceased was not put only on the kline (divan), but also on planks arranged inside. Various food and drink were left in bowls in the tomb as gifts for the dead.

Source: On the Lycian way, a book sold in museums in the area. I wonder if the punctuation in the last sentences is right: I can imagine the gifts were left on the planks.
