On January 21, 1920, a Turkish woman passed a military bakery with her son, about 15 years old, and was abused by the French. The son threw stones at them, to defend his mother. He was then killed with bayonets by the French. The incident was protested against and reported to the French occupation command. Stores closed for days but the Turks decided to postpone further action.
