Ankara june 2011 7032.jpg

Mural from Çatalhöyük, c. 6000 BC.
James Mellaart (the first excavator of the site) claimed it to be a representation of the settlement itself, with the Hasan Dağ volcano in the background. If he is right, this is the oldest painted landscape known up to now.
However, some other archaeologists question this interpretation. They suggest it is a stylized leopard skin with geometric patterns.
