Clazomenae is an ancient Ionian Greek city, located about 30 km west of Izmir (Smyrna). The city was founded on the mainland near the base of the Erythraean peninsula; it became part of the Ionian Dodecapolis and was well known for its painted terracotta sarcophagi (7th and first half of the 6th century BC).
