Medallion with scenes of the life of Jesus, Adana, 6th century AD
Gold. Diameter 82 mm. Early-Byzantine.
Both faces of this medallion depict scenes from the life of Christ, with inscriptions, set in three bands.
This face shows the Annunciation and Visitation (upper band), the Birth of Jesus and Flight to Egypt (middle band) and the Adoration of the Three Magi (lower band). The other face depicts the miracles of Christ, surrounded by a band with Saints and branch motifs.
