Konya Hacı Ali Efendi Muallimhanesi 3759.jpg

Located at the Hükümet Meydanı, where one can also see some fine early 20th century buildings like that of the PTT, the T.C. Ziraat bank and some others, stands the fine Şerafeddin mosque, originally a Seljuk mosque that has been rebuilt after 1630. It is described as a copy of the Kiliç Ali Paşa mosque in Istanbul by Sinan, itself a copy of the Haghia Sophia. I understood the minaret has toppled several times, and that the whole mosque has been restored in 1983.

This is a police station that was housed in a building that has changed function often. It is the Hacı Ali Efendi Muallimhanesi
Haji Ali Effendi (d. after 832/1429) lived during the reign of İbrahim Bey (d. 1464), one of the Karamanoğulları, and his birth and death dates are not known, nor where he is from. He was a philanthropist from the ilmiye class of the Karamanoğlu period, who served as a professor and judge. Hacı Ali Efendi had a single-domed building built of cut stone and brick, also known as Hacı Ali Efendi Muallimhanesi, across the northern entrance of the Şerafeddin Mosque. The term Muallim means “A knowledgeable professional who can guide the pilgrim during Hajj Also called a Mutawwif”, the building was used as a dârü'l-kurra and a madrasah until the Republican Period and assigned waqfs to it.
