The Mehmet Ağa Mosque, in the Atikali neighbourhood (Fatih district).
The mosque was built in 1585. Commissioned by Hadım Mehmet Ağa, who was a ‘Darüssaade ağası’ (the head of the eunuchs who guarded the Imperial Harem). Architect: Mimar Davut Ağa, a student of Mimar Sinan.
The prayer room has a large dome, surrounded by eight small ones. It is lit by 66 windows.

On the picture: The porch, on the north side of the mosque (the large glass windows are a modern addition, providing more comfort during winter).

Correspondent: J.M.Criel, Antwerpen.
