The ‘kitabe’ (building inscription) of the Mehmet Ağa Mosque, in the Atikali neighbourhood (Fatih district).
The mosque was built in 1585. Commissioned by Hadım Mehmet Ağa, who was a ‘Darüssaade ağası’ (the head of the eunuchs who guarded the Imperial Harem). Architect: Mimar Davut Ağa, a student of Mimar Sinan.
The building inscription is 16 sentences long and was written by the poet Şair Asari. The last two sentences mention the date, the architect and the poet himself.
