The main entrance of the university. Immediately after the conquest Sultan Mehmet II founded a university and a few years later installed it in the eight medreses which were attached to his mosque. It was later moved to the buildings of the Seraskerat or Ministry of War. The main part was by French architect Bourgeois (1866) who built (I quote from the Strolling through Istanbul guide; Redhouse) in the "sumptuous stylessness then thought to be appropriate to ministerial edifices".

the text above the main enterence in arabic letters reads: Daire-i Umur-u Askeriyye. (ministry of the military .)

there is a quot from the koran also, which reads: Inna fetahnaleke fethan mubina. (on that.......you are on your own for the translation. LOL)
