In June 2008 I finally entered Istanbul University, not for study purposes, but just to see the buildings and garden. What I had not expected was that from the back of the area one has a marvelous view of the Süleymaniye Mosque. It was under restoration, I tried to keep out scaffolding as much as possible. These shots by necessity – being taken from one vantage point – do not show the whole complex, but they give some detailed views of the dome-structure of the mosque itself and some parts of the külliye, the ensemble of buildings that always surrounded a big mosque, like some tombs, soup kitchen, a hospital, a Koran school.
