Efes (Turkish) or Ephesus (or –os) is one of the most well known classical cities along the West coast. It is quite large, part of it stretching out into the Meander plain, part of it along a hill, where among other things a large theatre is built, that is still in use and can seat thousands. Nearby the theatre is the Library of Celsus, which has to some extent been reconstructed and the facade of which gives an indication of what good Roman cities must have looked like in the rich centres. I included some statues and other works from the museum in the nearest modern city, Selcuk, a city that I myself much prefer over the crowded and noisy Kuşadası (bird island), where most tourist stay - thank god. EFES

Efes (Türkçe) ya da Ephesus (veya –os) Türkiye’nin batı kıyısında en çok bilinen klasik şehirlerden biridir. Oldukça büyük bir yer, bir kısmı Menderes Ovası’nın içine kadar, bir kısmı da bir tepe boyunca uzanıyor. Burada diğer şeylerin arasında, hala kullanımda olan ve binlerce kişinin oturabildiğı büyük bir tiyatro inşa edilmiş. Tiyatronun yakınında, kısmen yeniden inşa edilmiş ve ön cephesi zengin merkezlerde iyi bir Roma şehrinin nasıl göründüğüne dair bir fikir veren Celsus kütüphanesi var. Yakınlardaki modern bir şehir olan Selcuk’taki müzeden bazı heykellerin ve diğer çalışmaların resimlerini ekledim. Kalabalık ve gürültülü bir yer olan Kuşadası’na göre Selçuk’u çok daha fazla tercih ediyorum. Tanrıya şükür çoğu turist Kuşadası’nda kalıyor.
