At the foot of the hill where the theatre is a major landmark there is a complicated area. A Roman public building, probably a commercial agora, from the 2nd century AD was built over an earlier construction, probably a residential villa from the Earelier Imperial Period. In the centre of the agora and elsewhere marine mosaics belonging to it have been discovered. During the 5th centrury the interior of the agora was occupied by a basilica, which had two apses. It is suggested the east one was for mass, the west one maybe for displaying relics, so it may have been a pilgrimage destination because of the cult for a martyr or saint.
