I here show pictures I took after visiting a Sinan mosque in Kanlıca. I walked south, passing the huge bridge over the Bosporus (the second one, a third one is planned and about to be built). The pictures I took there are in the Bridges gallery. After a short walk one comes to the Anadolu Hisarı, the fortress at the Anatolian side, much smaller than the Rumeli Hisarı, the one at the European side. That one was built in 1452 in four months, shortly before the conquest of Byzantium in 1453. The Anatolian one was built under Beyazit I Yıldırım in 1390 or thereabout. It consists of a keep and a surrounding wall with an outer wall, guarded by three towers. Parts of the outer wall have been demolished, if only because there is a road along the Bosporus running through the castle’s grounds. It has been suggested the outer wall and towers were built under Fatih at the time the Rumeli one was built.

The Strolling through Istanbul guidebook pointed out there also is a namazgah, an open air mosque, with a stone mihrab and mimber within a walled plot. People there told me it was still in use. It seems to date from somewhere between 1660 and 1780.
