Memorial Day, '12

Mom and I slipped away from an unexpectedly company filled Memorial Day weekend in 2012 to visit the Munger Street Cemetary (in rural Middlebury, just down the road from my Gramma & Grampa Billings' homestead) where my Dad is buried. Dad served in the Army during the Korean War, so he has an Army stone & marker as well as the family stone. He was a gentle man and his country and family mattered to him. Years later, his service (and the service of countless before and after him) is still appreciated as we and others around the world live in freedom. It was good to visit and an honor to freshen the flag flying at his gravestone. As we finished our visit, a pair of cyclists came by - turned out to be the President of the Cemetary Association and the Sexton of the Cemetary. I grew up mowing this cemetary with my family and actually own a plot their along side my folks, so it was a nice to meet them and "talk cemetary" for a bit. They are good folks and I appreciate their efforts to maintain this historic burial ground. Nice day.
