The wine maker. I'd never met Paul before, but he called to ask if I would be interested in possibly writing an article about growing wine grapes and making wine in this region. It is, he told me, a federally designated viticulture area - one of only 145 in the country. I was surprised. His backyard is filled with grapevines, beautifully pruned in a lyre shape, and heavy with tiny green unripe grapes. There are 112 vines and about seven different varieties of grapes. I learned more, really, than I wanted to know about the scientific aspects of it. The tasting was the better part of it - and he was kind enough to send a bottle home with me. I asked if he would be part of this series and he was also kind enough to agree to that as well.
So far, except for some slight cropping, these have all been right out of the camera images.
