In March 2006, Tropical Cyclone (Hurricane, Typhoon) Larry tore apart the town of Innisfail and nearby lowland rainforests with wind gusts to 240 kmh.
In places, the forest was so badly damaged it tempted the thought that it might not recover in our lifetimes.
In the aftermath, vines proliferated and rapidly smothered the surviving severely-shorn trees.
Seven years and three months later, the vines are still dominant but a new forest canopy is emerging.
