Stockwellia (Stockwellia quadrifida)

OK; not a great photo, but one for botanical buffs. The striking resemblance of these capsules to eucalypt "gum nuts" is obvious, but note also at right how two capsules are fused into a syncarpium.
Stockwellia ia believed to be an ancient branch of the eucalypt lineage, sharing features with Alloteropsis, Syncarpia and Eucalyptopsis.

other sizes: small medium original auto
