Mekong dry rice crops

This is the prettier side of slash-and-burn agriculture. The yellow fields are stubble from last wet season’s dry rice crop.
It isn’t always so neat, and in the face of increasing population, the forest is retreating rapidly. In the Laotian mountains, much of the rice is grown in this way.
