i agree. lived in las cruces in 1973, telshore blvd when the only thing there was the apts i lived in. use to run in the desert, watch those thunderstorms--- WOW! tue. + thrs would get a ride into school from a tropper. went on A mountain to camp, thiers just something about that land, it touches your soul and frees it.

I was born in Miami in 1949, and left for good in 1995. I live in Espanola, between Taos and Santa Fe. Once you see the scenery in New Mexico it is hard understanding how you saw beauty in the flat asphalt tabletop of Miami. If you ever come out to New Mexico get off the main highway. People usually just drive through on I-10 or I-40. If you come across I-10 get off in Las Cruces, go north a ways and cut over to Silver City, but do it during the daytime. You will drive through varying terrain and go through some beautiful mountains. They will impress you, especially if you look down off the road. But don't do that for more than a second. From Silver City you can cut back down to I-10 via Lordsburg. If you come across on I-40 take some time to go to Santa Fe. You can exit at Cline's Corners or go further to NM 14 and go through a very interesting area. From Santa Fe you go to Espanola, where you can take the high road to Taos through the mountains or follow the Rio Grande river up through Embudo and Dixon. That river drive is very pretty and awe inspiring. From Taos you can take the Enchanted Circle to Red River, Cimmaron, Eagle's Nest, Angel Fire and back to Taos. Lot of mountain driving on that one, but you also get a taste of the Plains east of the Rockies. Very pretty in its own way. Carry cash when driving in the northern part especially. Lots of places don't take credit cards. There is nothing in Roswell to see, or worth the drive. The drive through Silver City is just a few hours out of the way, but well worth it. Really. Just don't cross the area at night. Twisting mountain roads and it gets dark. You might want to stay in Silver City overnight. Very sweet city, civilized, and it sits right on the Continental Divide. Going into Taos expect to stay a day or so in the area.

I lived in Miami for 40 years from 1950-1992---- Now here I am in Taos and love it. Worked for Burdines , Barry College and MDCC North Campus You have posted nice photos of Taos but you really have to see it your self. As I used to say---Ya'll come.
